A good warm-up prepares the body, sharpens focus and lowers the risk of injury. Here are five simple drills we recommend before every training session.
1. Light Jogging and Skipping
Start with three to five minutes of easy jogging and skipping to raise the heart rate and wake up the muscles. Keep the pace relaxed; the goal is to warm up, not to tire out.
2. Dynamic Stretches
Leg swings, arm circles and hip openers take the joints through the range of motion used in batting, bowling and fielding. Avoid long static holds before play; save those for after.

3. Lunges and High Knees
Walking lunges and high knees activate the legs and hips. Focus on good posture and controlled movement rather than speed.
4. Short Sprints and Shuttle Runs
Finish the physical warm-up with a few short sprints and shuttle runs over ten to twenty metres. These build acceleration and prepare the body for quick changes of direction.
5. Fielding and Catching Drills
Close with relaxed catching and ground-fielding drills in pairs. This sharpens hand-eye coordination and gets players mentally ready for the session.
